Office 365 Accounts for CCM Students

CCM has made Office365 available for your use. Office365 offers Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and a host of other useful tools. Access to Office365 does not affect how you currently access your student G-Mail e-mail account. Please still use the current system for your current CCM issued email.

As always, if after trying to complete this process on your own, you run into difficulties, please visit the CCM Self Service Portal – Students page for answers to many questions, or, contact our Solution Center at solutioncenter@ccm.edu for assistance.

ESTABLISH OFFICE 365 ACCOUNT

Visit https://portal.office.com to log into and set up your Office365 account using your CCM credentials. Once you have established your Office365 account, it is active and ready to use.

Again, if you run into challenges after having attempted to access your Office365 account, please visit https://www.ccm.edu/ccm-self-service-portal/student-self-service-portal/ for instructions, or contact the Solution Center at solutioncenter@ccm.edu.

We encourage you to use the 1TB of storage available to you with OneDrive to store your documents. This allows for easy access to your files, on or off campus.

Becoming familiar and using Office 365 will help us continue being able to function online.

Accessibility for Office 365

Office Online works in a web browser. This makes its accessibility features work a little differently than Office desktop programs. For example, keyboard shortcuts might not be the same and the page layouts are different. However, all the keyboard shortcuts and other accessibility features that you know from the browser work in Office Online. You can also use the browser controls to zoom, to change text size, and to control screen colors.

Office Online provides WAI-ARIA support for assistive technologies (WAI-ARIA stands for Web Accessibility Initiative-Accessible Rich Internet Applications). If you use an assistive technology such as a screen reader or speech recognition software, you will have the best experience in Office Online if the assistive technology that you use supports WAI-ARIA.

Note: VoiceOver users on the Mac OS X platform may experience mixed results in accessibility depending on the web browser being used. The Safari web browser is recommended for Office 365 Online.

Microsoft Accessibility Documentation

Microsoft provides additional help for accessibility needs. Please go here for additional assistance: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/contact-microsoft-accessibility

Additional Help or Questions about Accessibility

If you have questions about using your assistive technologies, contact Disability Access Services. For general questions about accessibility at OSU, contact the Office of Equity and Inclusion.

Offering benefits way beyond programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive, Outlook and more, Microsoft 365 is a suite of productivity, storage, multi-media and business applications that allows you to collaborate and share your work across campus, teams and classes. You can access Microsoft 365 applications by logging in at: https://office.com. Sign-in using your university email address and password.

New Features

Check for new applications such as Power BI Pro and Visio in your Microsoft account. After signing in, click on the waffle in the left-hand corner and view the list of available applications. Power BI Pro allows you to connect to and visualize data by creating interactive reports. More information about getting started with Power BI is available at Microsoft Power BI Training and Get Power BI Desktop.

Please note: Microsoft changed the Office 365 brand name to Microsoft 365. Only the name changed; there are no changes to the applications.

Duo

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Microsoft 365

All Microsoft 365 applications - including email - require MFA to provide additional authentication for proof of your identity whether on-campus, off-campus, or your mobile device.

If you already have Outlook and Microsoft 365 apps installed, be sure you are using an updated version - either Office 2016, Office 2019 or Office365. If you are experiencing an issue with authenticating, please check that you are using supported devices and operating systems.

Troubleshooting: If you are having difficulty with Office 2016, OIT recommends uninstalling Microsoft Office and reinstalling the full office package using Office 2019 and above.

OIT also recommends using the Microsoft Office 365 desktop or mobile device applications for access to these programs. You will only be prompted for authentication about once every 90 days when using the desktop applications. If you use a web browser to access Microsoft 365 apps, you will be prompted for authentication with each new browser session.

Next steps

First: Install the Duo app on your preferred device (we highly recommend doing this on your smartphone).

Second: Be sure you register for Duo from your laptop or desktop computer. (Printable Duo registration and installation instructions available here.)

Once you install the Duo app, register for Duo and select your authentication method and device; then you're all set! (Please note: If you already installed and registered for Duo, you don’t have to register again.)

Reminder: A Duo MFA challenge is good for 90 days for the same device. However, if you then log in from outside our trusted network using a different device or from a web browser, you will be challenged again by Duo MFA.

Linux Users: With the implementation of MFA when using Microsoft 365 products, you will need to keep your browser open or you will be required to authenticate at the beginning of each new session. Be sure you have installed the most recent browser for Linux.
